I AM IN HIM, AND HE IS IN ME.

My biological son consists of 30 trillion human cells.  That is a 3 with 13 zeros after it.  A number so large it’s impossible to grasp its enormity.  Think of the distance to the nearest star in miles.

With the exception of his red blood cells and platelets, every one of those cells has within it a molecule called DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid).

Half of my son’s DNA is from me and half from his mother.

I am in him and he is in me, in this very real and physical way.

Jesus teaches that He is in the Father and the Father is in Him.  It seems we really are created in His image. Jesus prayed, “Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.  May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”  Jesus very clearly is praying this for all those who believe or ever will believe that He is Lord. (John 17:20)

Jesus is in me, and I am in Him, just like those DNA molecules I share with my son.  I gave him my very self when he was born.  Jesus gave Himself to me when I was born again.

My oldest son is adopted.  The courts of men have declared him my son, no different in the eyes of the law than his brother.  They are, together, my heirs.  God’s word says, “The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.  And by him we cry Abba, Father.  The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.  Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.” (Romans 8:15-17)

All of us believers are in this same, one and only Christ. He is in every one of us. Jesus prayed, “I have given them the glory that you (the Father) gave me, that they may be one as we are one.  I in them and you in me so that they may be brought to complete unity.” (John 17:22-23)

Creation is simply not simple at all.  It is incredible that we, the created ones, can glimpse the enormity, the beauty, and the complexity of this magnificent unity.  It is with awe that we take possession of our unity with the Creator and with each other.  We can know this truth of Jesus’ teachings at our very core.

We are filled with joy when we believe in Jesus and learn this truth.  This is called seeking His kingdom. Jesus prayed, “That they (all believers) may have the full measure of my joy within them.” (John 17:13)

I endeavor to go about my day today with this thought in mind.
